The Journey
Hi, I’m Rob, founder of Canine CT Academy.
My journey into dog training didn’t begin in a classroom, it started in the real world, working within the prison service alongside scent detection dogs. Over the past five years, I’ve developed hands-on experience training and handling working dogs, alongside achieving a Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour. This combination of practical experience and formal education has shaped the way I approach every dog I work with today.
But the biggest turning point in my journey came with my own dog, Tina the working cocker spaniel and scent detection dog. While highly driven and incredibly capable in her work, Tina initially struggled with nervousness and reactivity around other dogs. Outside of her role, everyday situations like walks became challenging. Her strong prey drive meant recall was unreliable, and loose lead walking, barking, and overexcitement all needed addressing.
Tina forced me to become a better trainer!
Through working with her, I learned not just how to train behaviours, but how to truly communicate with a dog to build engagement, trust, and clarity. Everything I teach now has been tested and proven in real-life situations, not just theory.
Today, Tina is still by my side, not just as a working dog, but as the reason this journey began. She represents exactly what I aim to help my clients achieve... a dog that can thrive both in its natural drives and within everyday life.
At Canine Communication and Training Academy, my goal is simple, to help you understand your dog, build a stronger relationship, and create lasting, reliable behaviour in the real world.
